bp started its operations in Mauritania in 2017 with the discovery of a gas field straddling the maritime border between Mauritania and Senegal. Following the signing of agreements with the governments of Mauritania and Senegal, the company began the development of GTA gas projects operated by bp in both countries. The innovative design of the GTA Mega project includes the region's deepest subsea infrastructure, a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO), and the world's first offshore LNG hub terminal. The hub terminal includes an offshore breakwater to protect the floating LNG facilities, LNG loading facilities and jack-up living platforms from the typical local climate and Marine environment.
